Rare S8 Home Movie Film Reel Vietnam War US Army Helicopter Special Forces Nam June 21, 2022

Vintage Super 8 Home Movie Film Reel. A couple of famous TV personalities visit the Special Forces Camp, Cai Cai via a helicopter. One VIP is of short stature, but a huge smile. She was a regular visitor to the Nam during the war and well-remembered by troops of that era from their childhoods. I will not spoil it for you, but if you get stuck and cannot identify her, ask anyone who watched children’s TV shows in the early 1960s, they will be able to identify her right away. She is doing the pop up routine that was made famous around that time on the show “Laugh In”. She comes up slowly like a periscope and looks around remember the bit on Laugh in where the guy in a German WW2 helmet slowly pops his head up? ….. Some of the special forces army veterans can be identified. There are South Vietnamese servicemen also including one that appears badly wounded and is being carried into a small boat. Good fast moving combat gunship view out the side of the chopper, while in air. As you can see a nice camera was used. A LITTLE BIT ABOUT CAMP CAI – CAI – Cai Cai Camp (also known as Cai Cai Special Forces Camp or Dan Chu Camp) is a former U. Army and Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) base northwest of Bình Th? Nh Ðông on the Plain of Reeds in southern Vietnam. The base was established by the 5th Special Forces Group Detachment A-412 in April 1965 30 km northwest of Bình Th? Nh Ðông and 3 km from the Cambodian border. The camp was frequently a target for Vietcong fire and was severely damaged by flooding in 1965 and 1966. In 1967 Detachment A-412 was redesignated as Detachment A-431. On 18 January 1968 forces from Detachment A-431 engaged a Vietcong force near the camp and SGT Gordon Douglas Yntema would be posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during the battle. The base was handed over to the ARVN 76th Border Rangers in September 1970. To All That Gave Their Lives for Freedom and for their Country; no matter how far you were laid to rest from your home.
